Greg Le Duc, writer and producer of GRIDIRON was born
and raised in Green Bay. He went to Packer games as a
teenager during the Lombardi era.
"What
motivated me to write the script was that although everyone
knew that Curly started the Packers, nobody really had
any in-depth knowledge about the beginnings of the team.
I was intrigued about the origins of this great football
dynasty and a guy named Curly that grew up in my town
that nobody seemed to know.
"My parents Claude and Rose helped me with my research
and even assisted me in meeting with Marguerite Lambeau.
She was 99 years old when I interviewed her. Talking
with Marguerite was inspiring. I knew this was more
than just a football tale it was a real love story.
I believe that this will be a great movie."

"GRIDIRON"
is more than just a great sports story about the
beginning of pro football told from the point of
view of the underdog team. It's a love story about
an athlete and his high school sweetheart, and at
the same time, the love affair between a small town
and its football team. The Green Bay Packers are
the only team in all professional sports that are
owned by the citizens of the town. Their extreme
passion for their football team and the sport is
unmatched.
This
screenplay tells the story of Curly Lambeau, the
playerand coach of the Packers, Marguerite
Lambeau, his wife, Donny, his son, Marcel,
his father, George Whitney Calhoun, the cantankerous
newspaper sports writer and co-founder of the team,
George Halas the player, coach and owner of the
Chicago Bears and Lambeau's nemesis, Joe Carr, the
head of the National Football league, Tim Mara,
retired bookie and owner of the New York Giants
and Johnny "Blood" McNally, one of the
most brilliant and wild halfbacks ever to play pro
ball.

In
the 1920s, pro football was struggling to survive.
It
was a time of crude leather helmets and bloody,
bruising roughnecks. George W. Calhoun passed the
hat for donations during the games. Former college
football players and blue collar working men played
for the love of the game, not to make a buck. This
is no overnight success story. Curly and his men
struggled for years to achieve a championship team.
After a decade of missing the brass ring, the people
of his hometown started to doubt his ability to
produce a winner.
The
odds were against the little town in northeastern
Wisconsin. For Curly and his supporters, fielding
a team that could beat or even provide a fair match
for Chicago, Boston or New York was an almost impossible
dream. Curly's stubborn determination took a toll
on his marriage to Marguerite and his relationship
with his son. All Curly and his boys have to show
for their efforts are scars, broken bones and disappointment.

In
the end it is Curly's incredible enthusiasm and
grit, along with his team of veteran players combined
with the intense loyalty of the Green Bay fans that
enables them to come out on top. |

| About
Reading Screenplays |
Movie
scripts are the blueprints for making motion pictures. They
inspire producers and studios to commit time and money, and
allow actors to get to know their physical and emotional roles
in the story and for directors to gain an insight into the characters
and the action that will be on the screen.
Still, reading screenplays is somewhat abstract. The reader
must use their imagination far more than when reading in a novel,
since what you are provided with is the character's dialog,
brief descriptions of the character's outward appearance and
the story in the form of shots and scenes.
The great thing about reading a movie script is that it allows
you to create the movie in your head. There are a few terms
to learn such as EXT. means EXTERIOR or outdoors and INT. means
INTERIOR or indoors. Most of the terminology of a script is
easy to translate. Think of reading a script as a new adventure. |
